Knox Writers’ House Contributor’s Pick of the Week 10/29 /2012

How the Little Bear Reflected Light by Heather Green in Tuscaloosa, AL

Chosen by Ana Božičević in New York, NY who says:

Once I had a green anthology of Romanian poetry, in translation into Croatian — the poems contained within were a sharp offshoot of an implicated, spacious kind of lyrical avant-garde poetics that’s characteristic of that part of the world, inasmuch as anything lingers anywhere long enough to stain it. ‘How the Little Bear Reflected Light’ takes this quality & marries it to the contemporary American lyric, developing them to the point of almost-overexposure: there is hardly anyplace to go, lyrically speaking, after this poem. Perhaps Heather Greene can now write an epic poem, or make a mobile, or play chess. Maybe she can go hurricane-tipping or something. Either way, we won’t be young like this again…Good night.
